We've used an Oreck "portable" canister vac for baseboards and other non-carpet tasks for ten years. Maybe it was just getting old, I don't know, but it surely didn't have the cleaning power we thought it should. So we went to Lowe's and picked up one of these little jobbers. WOW! You know, when you have light sand-colored carpet, the dust along the baseboards make it look really dirty! The Oreck carpet vac does a fine job EXCEPT along the baseboards. This little vac made 13-year-old carpet look like it was installed yesterday! It's a bit noisey, but I just put on my noise-suppression muffs, and vacuumed for an hour! It came with the six-foot hose, crevice tool, and wide floor nozzle. It works like a champ, and beats out everything else we tried at the stores, including a $100 Sears. It's got a filter, and it's easy to clean. Bonus is you can clean up liquid spills, too! We've cleaned it out twice, filter looks great. We've not tried to buy a replacement yet, can't imagine that will be a problem. The capacity is one gallon, about three times the capacity of the puny Oreck canister vac. It has no wheels, but it has a smooth, flat bottom that lets you drag it acros carpet with low chance of tip-over. It's got a beefy handle so you can grip it for cleaning up high. We added our own extensions, both more hose and hard wands, and were able to clean everything from carpet to cobwebs in the skylights. Wouldn't trade it for anything! Beefs? The cord is 'way too short! Shop-Vac should have included a brush attachment. And would it be too much to ask for some form of muffler/diffuser to handle that noisey, powerful exhaust? The "features" heading above says "silent". We're thinking that's when it's turned off! Good suction means powerful exhaust, let's make it a good thing at BOTH ends?Read full review
I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of suction. Replacement, Type A, bags are fairly easy to get. I only wish that the hose was about 2' longer. Otherwise a good machine.

I wasn't sure if this compact vacuum would be powerful enough to clean up all of the guinea pig bedding that falls outside of our pet's cage. My regular vacuum gets clogged up easily from it. This vacuum is not only powerful, but it's easy to use because it's lightweight and it's super easy to empty. I would definitely recommend this.
