Take the helm of the most powerful fleet in the universe. In Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon, a real-time strategy game based on the animated Disney movie, players use their wits and courage to save the queen and empire from marauding space pirates and a mysterious new enemy. Command intricately rendered solar, sail-powered spaceships that resemble old-world vessels, and battle virtually indestructible ironclad ships.

Dozens of incredible 3-D ships and three play modes extend the real-time strategy action of Treasure Planet. In single player mode, players receive battle training, customize their ships and weapons, and then jump into their mission. In multiplayer mode, up to four players choose their ships, crew, and weapons, and then engage in an online battle, while the skirmish mode instantly delivers mini battle action. Across all gameplay modes, an intuitive interface offers advanced options that deliver action and adventure to all real-time strategy fans.

Review

Developed by Barking Dog Studios, this is a real-time action-strategy game based on the Disney film. Your task is to rise through the ranks of an intergalactic military by commanding 3D flying space galleons and protecting the queen and her empire. The game can be played in single and multiplayer modes. With the single-player mode, kids take on the role of Jim Hawkins to complete 12 mission-based levels. As they play, players acquire new ships, equipment and team members, plus learn more tactical skills to enhance their vessel's navigation and combat abilities. In multiplayer mode, players compete over the Internet or LAN, engaging in fleet battles with various ships and location choices. We tested the single player mode and were somewhat disappointed in the game. The controls are less than intuitive and the graphics aren't up to par with other Disney products. Also, the real-time gameplay makes the game move slowly. -- From Children's Software Revue® -- "Subscribe Now!"

From the first time I played the demo of this as a kid, I loved this game. The demo only had 3 levels and I would play them over and over again. Recently I finally bought the full game on CD and it still holds up.

The Good: The models are a little low polygon, even for 2004, but textures and effects are good and the idea of sail ships and space still looks just as beautiful as it did in the movie. The story is very good, taking place a few years after the movie, it actually works well as a continuation of the movie and would have made a good sequel if the movie hadn't tanked at the box office. Between the 4 factions, Navy, Procyon, Iron Clad, and Pirates, there are a ton of different ships to chose from. The game is simple to pick up, but still has a lot of complexity if you want to get into it. You can just fire away at enemy ships, or you can target specific parts of the ship as the game features locations specific damage. Targeting sails makes enemies slower, weapons can be destroyed, and hitting the rudder will make it difficult to turn. Weapons also have a good verity, each type feeling much different from eachother.

The bad: The first few missions in the campaign aren't too interesting as all you have is a tiny scout ship, it gets better once you gain command of a fleet of battleships, but the levels are large and you will still spend quite a bit of time just sailing between battle locations. The IA could also be a little better, with friendly ships and bases sometimes firing at enemies even when friendlies are in the line of fire. The game gives you the ability to board enemy ships and take them over, but the mechanics for this aren't very good.

Overall: I'd look up some videos before buying this game. It is one of my favorite games of all time, but it is definitely a nitch title and not for everyone. If you are a fan of Treasure Planet, or naval combat, and this game doesn't look to slow for you, you should pick up a copy as not only is it one of the best movie licensed games ever, it is a really good game on its own.

I've had a demo for this game hidden away on a demo disk I got from McDonald's years ago, and I hadn't even heard of it until recently. After playing the tutorial, I knew I needed to buy this game and I'm glad that I did. This game consists of several real time battle games with you commanding a space ship (more specifically a space "boat") and attempting to complete several objectives. As you progress through the story, you obtain better, more powerful ships, relegating the previous boats to other crew members who will follow your orders loosely. I found the AI to be fairly solid, but if your captains aren't up to the task they might make some very stupid maneuvers. The story itself is very solid, a fine follow-up to the movie, expanding the lore of the universe while letting characters have shining moments. This story is helped by the beautiful graphics engine. The hand-drawn images are unfortunately hit or miss, but the gameplay itself is breathtaking to look at. Whether you're firing away at pirates or watching a ship get torn apart by a black hole, it's a spectacle for the eyes. The multiplayer mode is a bit lacking without human opponents, though you are able to pit yourself against AI commanders on a series of maps for some fun. All in all, a solid strategic experience that I would easily recommend to anyone who wants to battle it out amongst the stars.

Games from Disney Interactive consistently don't work for me. They run slowly, crash, and freeze.

I think it was the pace of the game.... By 2010 standards, I think the pace was just a tad too slow and couldn't hold his attention. Oh well.... The ships are cool though.

I've played this game since I was really little, then Iost the disc. I bought another copy on Amazon, and it brought back good memories. I've always loved the amazing graphics, and the if the game is in hard, it always tests my ability to command my ship. Recommended to anyone who likes strategy games. Unfortunately, war games are more popular.
