Easy setup, low-cost, easy to reboot, great except... Motorola is leaving this product market!
Be aware that Xfinity will not give you real support for it, since it’s not theirs. Worse, Motorola is getting out of the consumer modem business -- they left it, actually. So, caveat emptor (buyer beware)! Look elsewhere! I am very, very annoyed by that. I am going to be buying another modem soon -- I've had products that were abandoned by their produced, and what little support I got has always sucked: Kensington, Lexmark, and others. Shame on me for not looking into it before I bought this item. But here is my review, for those who are willing to buy what will be a porly supported product. This was written upon setting it up and spending some time using it, before I learned of Motorola's abandoning the consumer market for modems:I liked the price and maximum speed, since I’m not a gamer, I was happy with the 500+ Mbps max. It’s a smaller package than my old modem, with a better design, and set up was easy – connected right up to my Linksys router. We’ve been using it for more than 6 months now, with our cable internet provider (Xfinity) it works just fine. Our old one became a problem, and that was constant need to reboot it and the router (sometimes the connection failed more than once a day, even didn’t work for a period of time, and there were no outages.).We did have a week where almost every day the Motorola modem required a modem/router reboot, and a few day it was needed several times. Don’t know what that was about. It was concerning, as connection problems were the issue with our old modem, a ripoff from Linksys since they no longer even make consumer modems. (No updates available, if I recall.)

My old modem, an Arris, was starting to give off a slight burning smell. It was seven years old, so it seemed like a good idea to replace it before it caused more problems. It was also slowing, but it could have been the ISP or router. This modem had good enough specs for my 50mb service. It has outperformed my old modem, even though the old one had similar performance on speed tests. Even though this is not formally faster, it works better. Pages load faster and streaming is smoother. It's a good upgrade. The lights are also more subdued than the old Arris modem, which was too bright.

EDIT: Although I was happy with the modem' s performance, I was not happy with the strong odor emitted by the modem once it operated for a few hours and heated up. I thought at first it was part of the normal off-gassing process, but it was much stronger than that and didn't improve after a few days of use. It gave me a bad headache anytime I was close to it, and the smell carried for several feet. If you have any chemical or fragrance sensitivities, you might want to choose another modem.

IF YOU BUY A NEW MODEM AND IT DOESN'T WORK IMMEDIATELY, RETURN IT AND TRY ANOTHER MODEM.
I bought this when a higher priced Motorola modem failed to work with my Xfinity cable. Both modems were recommended by Xfinity, but only this MB7420 worked. I switched cables from the old modem to the new modem and activated with the Xfinity app. Worked immediately. No problems.

Previously, I spent 6 days (including the need for an Xfinity technician visit) trying to get a new MB7621 modem to work. Xfinity blamed Motorola. Motorola blamed Xfinity. No solutions offered. If you buy a modem and it doesn't work immediately following the quick start procedures, return it and try a different modem. It's not worth the pain and suffering of trying to make a product work. Customer service is too limited to help these days and technician visits cost more than the new modem. Sad.

Pros: Fast, Works without a hitch, Pays for itself in 9 months
Cons: The diagnostics page could be formatted better

I purchased this when I upgraded my TWC service. I am subscribed to the TWC 50/5 "Ultimate" package and I'm getting 124/6 so no complaints there.

The only annoyance was dealing with TWC support for activation. I use TWC's phone service, so I kept the old TWC modem for the phone. So of course they kept activating and deactivating the wrong modem at first, but I stayed on the line until they sorted it out. Since then (just over two weeks) the modem has been up nonstop with zero errors, zero outages, etc. 16 down channels and 4 up channels all bonded, I'm amazed I can get this level of service out here in the sticks (Hudson Valley NY).

One fun fact about TWC -- if you use their modem for phone only, they won't charge you for it. So when I brought in this modem and relegated the old one to phone only use, they let me keep it but stopped charging me $10/month. Good deal.

The only possible complaint I have about this modem is that the web page is a little basic. It shows what you need to know, signal strengths etc, but the formatting on the log entries isn't great and some entries get truncated. It's a minor thing but it's the only downside I could really think of so I figured I'd mention it. The way this thing performs I wouldn't trade it over that.

Overall, highly recommended. Performs flawlessly, works beautifully with my TP-Link C7 router, gives me rock-solid stable service faster than I am paying for.

Swapped out my 10+ year old router that was having wifi issues. I set it up in under a few hours and have had a great signal ever since!
Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2018
    Color: BlackVerified Purchase
This is a great modem if you want to buy your own. I purchased all of my own cable modems and routers as a TWC/Spectrum gives you junk. I was having to take their router back at least once a month and sometimes weekly. The last time I took one in to exchange it for a “new” one, their all just patched up and sent out, it was making a rattling noise as I was walking from the TWC store! I took it back in and the women who gave it to me said “You must have dropped it between the doorway and your vehicle. It didn’t sound like that when I gave it to you!” I got mad as usual dealing with a TWC and slammed it on her desk and said I was going to buy my own. I bought this one. It worked fine until we had a surge or power drop and it was working still, just not up to full capacity! Of course the warranty was out of date by like two weeks, but I gave this 4 stars as you can get a much better router now that’s faster and more reliable!

    UPDATE!

This modem is a piece of junk! It gets terribly hot to the touch and it will not last very long. As I commented on the top reviewers review, he is exactly correct about the heat issues this modem has a problem with! It gets extremely hot and it can not handle the number of Wi-Fi devices most people have now. It started getting so hot that I was going to add two computer fans in a push -pull system to each side of this heat producing device! I noticed that it had become very hot when I had to unhook my Netgear router as it was just not able to handle the newer speeds. It is perfectly fine and worked very well for 5 years or more.

However I purchased two different Motorola modems and both went out. The first one was obvious that it had died. As an Electrician, I noticed a burnt electronic smell and realized the Internet was down. As I approached the office , I could smell it stronger and the modem was not lit up! It was toast! The one I am reviewing here was hot to the touch probably immediately, but after about 5 months we started having issues with this modem and Internet connection to devices. I would avoid this modem like the plague! I paid twice what it cost now, however it has been the second Motorola router to fail from heat issues. I would definitely rethink buying this or any other Motorola modem. The cable company tried to reach our router through this modem and they could not! The technician got on line and informed me that 8 channels had burned out! He said I needed to buy another one! Cable supplied modems are terrible and I was having to return their junk about twice a month! They work for minimal applications, but when you have two MacBook Pro laptops, two IPhones, two iPad Pros as well as a Server, a Home Automation device, a Roku, two network stereo Receivers , one Oppo UDP-205 as well as a Wi-Fi thermostat, you are putting a lot of strain on the modem as several devices are constantly connected to the Internet. Their are at least 5 devices or more always connected to the Internet.

I finally bit the bullet and went with the Netgear CM700 and it never gets hot , even when multiple devices are being used. It stays incredibly cool! Even with multiple devices running at once. I paired it with a Netgear Nighthawk X10 router and a Netgear S8000 8 gigabyte port switch. Two are designated for 4K streaming. It has been up and running multiple devices for around or over a year! The router has built in fans and four channels. It can also be app contolled by my iPad Pro.

This was originally a five star review, but it should be better than this! I bet it is exactly why the price is half of what I purchased this for originally!
