Mothers and babies are at the heart of all we do. As a mom, I wanted our goods to reflect my enthusiasm for keeping babies' well-being.
How did we get our start?

I started babywearing when my first child was a few days old because it was the only way to keep her content and happy. I was never very happy with the products I used so I started making wraps and slings when my second child was born because I could not find a sling or wrap that was made from the right fabric. They were either too stretchy, too stiff or too hot. I also couldn’t find any designs I liked.
What makes our products unique?

Our slings and wraps are specially woven for babywearing, the fabrics will not stretch over time, and they hold the baby firmly in place but have just the right amount of give so they are easy to put on and comfortable to wear. They are all individually handwoven and hand-dyed with plant-based dyes. Also, all of our fabrics are made from 100% natural fibers, so they are all very breathable, comfortable, and lightweight.
Why do we love what we do?

I am very passionate about babywearing and I strongly believe in the benefits!

When a baby can see the world from where their parents do (rather than from far below, like in a stroller) their senses are stimulated and their attention is engaged all while feeling safe and secure. Not only does this extra stimulation benefit brain development but the baby quickly develops a sense of security and trust when carried close in a baby wrap or sling. Babywearing is good for cognitive and social development of the child according to some studies.
Hip Baby Wrap is a small women-owned business in Miami Florida. Our wraps and slings are all individually handmade in cooperatives under fair trade practices in India. Our business supports communities small villages and helps provide jobs for mothers and families to be able to work out of their homes. All of our products are made with non-toxic dyes, locally sourced high-grade cotton and electricity-free manufacturing.

Perfect beginner friendly ring wrap

This ring wrap is extremely easy to use, comfortable for both me and the baby, and so cute. I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy the hold is between the rings and the fabric. I have no worries about it coming loose even when my baby is being squirmy. The fabric is neither super soft nor super rough, not too thick nor too thin. In my opinion it's perfect because my baby is comfortable and he's not overheating or getting too chilly at all and it's easy to maneuver. And I love that I'm able to use the slack as a nursing cover, it makes this the most convenient carrier that I own. Another huge plus was that it arrived on time and I didn't have to wait too long for it at all. I placed the order and had it in my hands within 2 days. All for such a wonderful price as well. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

The only carrier my baby likes

This is my first ring sling so I can’t compare this one to other ring slings but compared to other carriers it’s amazing. No awkwardly long pieces of fabric to wrap while standing in a grocery store parking lot and it folds up small enough to throw into the diaper bag. We use it everyday.
As for this specific sling (rainbow honeycomb): The material is comfortable and strong. I love the colors and get tons of compliments when I wear it. It is super easy to adjust and stays perfectly adjusted for hours. It’s comfortable over the shoulder and back. My baby is 7mo and 19 lbs and I can easily wear him comfortably on a walk or trip to the store. I suspect I could even use it comfortably on a longer hike, but haven’t tried that yet.
I washed it on cold and hung it to dry. I can’t tell if any shrinking happened, but it still fits well and the colors didn’t run at all. The honeycomb has snagged a couple of times, but the pattern hides it and it’s not enough of a problem for me to be bothered by it.
Ive nursed in it a few times, and it works pretty well for that, but by the time you lower your baby to breast height, and/or recline his body position, the tail is just barely long enough to use as a nursing cover. Sometimes not long enough. For size reference, I’m 5”8, 170lbs and my baby is 19lbs.
I’ve been using it regularly for a few months and love it.

Not all colors are the same material

I have this ring sling in beach and rainforest and I love it! I've used the beach one from when she was a few months old to the current (she's 14 months old and 23 lbs) and it works so well still. I think it's fantastic for quick errands that you won't need to do much physical activity for. A toddler does get quite heavy since it's only on one shoulder after an hour or so, so I wouldn't have this be my only carrier. It doesn't have shoulder padding and honestly I don't think it needs it! The rings are sling rings so they are good quality.

One thing to be aware of is that not every color is the exact same material. I have bought summer rainbow, fern and pomegranate honeycomb in woven wrap format and they were very different textures and weights from the beach and rainforest. Fern is a heavier cloth, good for toddlers but takes a while to break in. Summer rainbow was a bit smoother and softer which is fine for a younger baby but lacks the grip of Fern. The honeycomb grips well but is very thin so isn't good for a heavy baby. Rainforest and beach are the same nice medium weight with a lot of grip and good for heavier babies. I guess this is why it's so inexpensive.

Edit: I was gifted a Maya ring sling which has a padded shoulder that is pleated. This hip baby ring sling was SO much more comfortable because it wraps around the shoulder instead of sitting on it. My original thought was right: this does just as well, if not better, without any padding.

We got this wrap because the others style with the yards and yards of fabric were tricky to get him out of while he was napping and took too long to get him into during witching hour or general fussiness. This one is much easier because I can lower my son from carrying into his lounger or bassinet and drape the remaining fabric over him like a blanket for nap time when he fights the naps. It does not stretch (which it’s not intended to) and is fairly sturdy and supportive for being fabric and a set of rings.

This is also a new favorite because when he’s in his witching hour or just generally fussy it’s more time efficient to get this one set up than the traditional wraps.

Is it his favorite-favorite wrap, no but that is not a product design issue and more of a “my son wants his wrap so right he thinks he’s back in the womb” issue. This wrap is his and my second favorite for sure!

I only wish I had found this earlier. Very sturdy and well made. The material is just the right thickness. I use this often with my 2 year old. She recently just wants me to hold her, which I will happily do. But it is not convenient when I need both hands. I ask her if she wants to sit in the rainbow and she says yes. It's easy to put on without having to put her down (for those times when being apart from me for a second is not an option) and also easy to slip her into. Sometimes I need to readjust a bit to make it more comfortable, but you can only be so comfortable having a child hanging from you. For reference, she is 28 lbs and 35 inches tall. Highly recommend.

A godsend!my super wiggly 1 year old never really lasts long in other carriers, but this one makes her as zen as the Dalai Lama!She could stay in it forever, able to observe everything we do, snuggled but not feeling constrained!The sling was easy to regulate, easy to hop hop off, easy to share with my husband whose body shape is the opposite than mine, and he loves the sling too, he can even cook with baby on his hip!The sling is also soooo light, so as soon as Covid19 quarantine ends, we're bringing it out too!Took a year to figure it out, but this was definitely the best babywearing device we've ever got!
