Small, responsive & versatile
4 Stars
Small, responsive & versatile
This Gana 3-Port HDMI Switch works well for us. It seamlessly turns one HDMI port into three and the remote control feature allows for easy tuning, especially if using a universal remote like a Harmony 650 (more on that later). This item has a very small footprint, which allowed me to mount it to the back of my TV. I used 12 of VHB 3M Adhesive Double-sided Foam Tape High Bond Conformable Acrylic Glue Replacement Kit 1.5 x 3 Inch Rectangular Plus Alcohol Pad to accomplish the mounting, but this diminutive switch can surely be affixed by any number of methods. There are several brands out there that look nearly identical and work exactly the same. In fact, I purchased this switch to replace another one that looks and functions the same, but that failed after 4-1/2 years. I first tried another brand (that also looks the same), SMARTOOO 3 in 1 out HDMI 1.4v switch 3 ports HDMI switch 4K / 3D auto switch / remote control, but it did not smoothly switch from input to input and had to be returned. On the other hand, this Gana Switch is very responsive and works better than my original switch ever did and certainly better than the one I had to return. I also like that the indicator light on this unit is red, rather than obnoxiously bright blue. This brand/model comes with a power cord, but it is not needed for my application as power is supplied by the devices installed as inputs (in my case a Roku 3). This switch works as described - I find I need the remote control feature because the auto-switch function is not as useful when you have inputs that don't power off (e.g. a Roku). I don't detect any difference in picture quality going through this device (I do not have a 4K TV or signal, so I cannot comment as to that). While I need the remote control feature, I don't use the remote that came with the switch. Instead, I rely on a universal remote (otherwise I would need 5 remotes for the setup pictured). My remote of choice is this entry-level Harmony: Logitech Harmony 650 Infrared All in One Remote Control, Universal Remote Logitech, Programmable Remote (Silver). There are more expensive Harmony remotes out there, but for line-of-sight applications this is all you need! This switch is compatible with the Harmony 650 remote, but it is not recognized by the MyHarmony App that programs the remote (this is the first device I've found that is not in Harmony's database). This means that the switch needs to be added manually, but there's a slight hiccup. When you follow the MyHarmony on-screen prompts it displays an error message about the model number being for a remote (not a switch), so you can never progress to the options that allow adding a device manually. The Harmony help forum & Google were of no help and I almost returned the switch. However, I realized since the switch was not recognized as a device in the Harmony database all I needed to do was enter a bogus model number (one that would not be mistaken for a remote control). Once I entered the bogus number, the on-screen instructions walked me through adding the switch manually. It has been working perfectly since then.Summary:Pros: Small, responsive, remote controlled, sensitive remote, red (vs blue) indicating light, 3 HDMI Ports from one.Cons: Not in the Harmony device database, so harder to add to universal remote (but this is really a Con for Harmony, not Gana).I recommend this product. The four-star rating will be upgraded depending on durability ( I want better than a 4-1/2 year service life for a higher rating).

Thought this was probably another piece of junk, but I decided to take a chance. It did not come with any instructions. All you have to do is plug it in to a USB port on your TV to power it and plug your three HDMI cables into the unit in the order you want them. You then connect a 4th HDMI cable from the other side of the unit and connect it to your TV. The remote is a little small and easily lost, but if you turn on a device connected to the unit, it will automatically switch over to it if you are on the correct HDMI input on your TV. I bought an additional one for my cousin and he loves his too. If you're looking for additional HDMI ports, this is a good, inexpensive option.

Our TV only has 3 HDMI inputs. We have 3 Nintendo Switch consoles and an Xbox. So we needed a splitter. I had one, but always had to get up to switch it from a Switch console to the Xbox. I'm lazy! So I needed something with a remote. This works great! And what's really nice. If I'm playing on the Switch and want to play on the Xbox, if I turn the Xbox on with the controller, it automatically switches to the Xbox without having to use the remote. Weird, but it works for me. Price was great too! Who knew a couple in their mid to late 60's could enjoy video games so much. LOL

This product works perfectly for what it is intended to do. My TV only has two HDMI ports, but in my room I have my Computer, my Nintendo Switch, my Apple TV, and my Xbox One all set up. Since my TV only has two ports, I am constantly unplugging stuff and plugging stuff back in, which i'm going to go ahead and assume is not good for the ports and could very well be wearing them out. This device works perfectly for increasing the number of available HDMI ports. However, the reason why this is getting 4 instead of 5 stars is the remote. It feels very cheap, the buttons are a pain to press, and it doesn't even work. In order to change the input, I have to use the button on the unit, which I guess is not really a huge deal, but if you are going to include a tiny, cheap, and unreliable remote, just don't include one at all. Overall however, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it.
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2021
Overview:
This is a unicorn of a product that I cannot find a true competitor for. Other products either don't have the same feature set at the same price, or they have the same features but are 5x the price. I haven't experienced any change in picture detail, latency, or processing artifacts. I have an xbox one, nintendo switch, and a mac mini hooked up to this thing and I LOVE the automatic switching on this product. I almost never have all 3 putting out a signal, so the ability to change my TV's input with my universal remote and then just turn on the device I want use effectively added 3 HDMI ports to my TV for under $15 if astounding.

Latency and Image quality:
On my xbox I like to play competitive games like Overwatch and Warzone where added latency would be experience ruining and I cannot feel a difference no mater how hard I try. With latency testing equipment you might be able to see a difference, but after correcting my TV's settings to turn off any image processing or color enhancing there is no perceivable latency. On my Switch I like to play games like Mario Maker 2, Katana Zero, or Octopath Traveler where there are some amazing colors (my TV is not HDR capable so I can't speak to the ability of this product to pass HDR content through) and there is a surprising lack of fringing, bleeding, or shifting of colors. There is also no change in image definition or evidence of compression. All devices are outputting a 1080p signal and to my eyes, that's exactly what's being displayed on my TV. Everything looks exactly the same through the switcher or directly into my TV. Honestly having both of these qualities in a product is something you usually have to pay quite a premium for, and having both at the same time is a miracle.

Input Switching:
Beyond convenient. The automatic switching to the most recently sent signal is perfect. I can be checking in on my home theatre PC and be managing my Plex library, and then grab my xbox controller to turn on my xbox and it will automatically change over to the xbox. To switch back over to my Mac, I would have to use the included remote or go press the button to change inputs, but that isn't a situation I often find myself in. The one time I remember being in a situation like that I seem to remember it switched back after I turned the 2nd device off, but I could be remembering that wrong. And if you have a programmable universal remote, it wouldn't be difficult to manually map the included remote to some spare buttons on your universal remote. I've just been too busy and haven't had that issue enough to do it myself lol. Again, just a magical experience regardless of price point, but especially notable in something this affordable.

Downsides:
Nothing major to report here. Depending on how you handle powering all of your devices it might be inconvenient to find a power source for this device. My TV doesn't have a USB port that supplies enough power, and my xbox/switch don't supply power through the USB device when powered off, and my Mac mini is too far away for the power cord to reach. But because my power strip IS close by and has included USB power ports it isn't a problem at all for me. If you have spare cell phone charging bricks and a close enough AC power port then you're chillin'. Honestly if you are looking for a product like this, then you most likely have a way to power this device in a close enough spot that it shouldn't be an issue. If you need to go do a quick measurement, the included (and extremely uncommon) power cable is around the same length as an included iphone charging cable (~3ft / 1m).

Tl;Dr:
If you're looking for a product to effectively increase the number of HDMI ports on your TV, and you just 'want it to work' boy do I have a product for you. I love this thing, and It's been running without issue for over 2 months now. If you are reading this, buy this thing.

Unfortunately I have to redact my initial review.
I bought this switch back in February for my TV that has only 2 inputs. At the time it worked perfectly for switching between my BluRay and Roku. I hooked it up this way knowing that I was moving and would have to then also attach a WII-U and a Satellite Box to the same TV. After the move, I hooked the BluRay, the WII-U and the Roku up to the switch and the Satellite Box to the other TV input. All was well using the Roku through the switch with no problems. It wasn't until I tried to watch a BluRay movie that I encountered a problem. The input kept blacking out for about 2 seconds at a time every 30 seconds. At first I thought the problem was with the BluRay disc, but after hooking up the BluRay player directly to the TV it worked perfectly. I then tried using the other inputs thinking it was isolated to just that one and all of the inputs of the switch were doing the same thing. It's like the automatic switching feature was trying to detect a new device attached and switch to it except that only plugging one device into it didn't resolve the issue.

Original review:
I love that this unit has a remote control to switch between devices. It has intuitive control that automatically switches between sources when a new one is turned on, so the remote isn't even necessary, but is still a nice feature.

It effectively upgraded my 2-port HDMI television into a 4-port HDMI without any loss of quality to the picture.

The price point was great as well for the product offered. I would definitely recommend this product to friends and family members that needed to extend their HDMI ports to accommodate multiple connections to their viewing displays.

Works well. I didn't bother hooking up the remote as the "intelligent" portion of this device switches automatically for me based on whatever gaming system is powered on. Picture looks perfect. No loss of quality. A install it, and forget it type of device. Exactly what I was looking for.
