Our Samsung wf210anw/xaa VRT washing machine stopped during a spin cycle and as a result it was not draining after a wash cycle before a rinse cycle. But there was no error code on the display.
I could not get it to force dump the water and suspected the drain pump. Following Samsung’s troubleshooting page, I checked the filter for debris, the balance of the washing machine, the external drain tube and whether there was debris in the motor fan (as far as I would get my fingers in there - there was none that I could feel). The old fan spun freely (nothing blocking it) with some resistance. I was then able to run it again with no clothes on a short cycle and again it stopped during a spin cycle and this time the "nd" code appeared on the display ("nd" is the Samsung code for not draining properly).
I found a great video for the Samsung VRT models and used that as my guide. I also read in forums and watched other videos that made it pretty clear that what I was experiencing is nearly always the drain pump motor failing if there is nothing blocking the pump's ability to spin or the other issues covered by the Samsung troubleshooting guide for the "nd" code (listed above).
I used two Philips screwdrivers, needle-nose and regular pliers and an impact tool and hammer on one tough screw that holds the drain assembly in place to do this. It took about an hour to take the washer apart.
Once I got it out, I checked the original motor spun by spinning the fan. Once I could really see/test it, the old fan's resistance was well off-pattern and inconsistent and the angle of the blades was no longer correct. With the new pump motor, the fan pattern is a smooth and consistent quarter-turn, stop, quarter-turn, stop, quarter-turn stop pattern. When checking the pump motor before taking it out, I could feel that it turned and it felt like it was turning properly, but once it was actually out it was clear that it was not spinning correctly and the angle was off (there was no way I could determine this before tearing things down). But there was also no debris on the motor fan, so the filter had done its job for 12+ years. The old motor was simply worn out from thousands of loads of laundry.
This motor was a perfect fit into the drain assembly and the washing machine went back together in about 30 minutes using the same tools (except the impact tool and hammer). I ran it on one short wash cycle with no clothes to see if there was a leak anywhere (no leaks). Then ran four more loads with laundry - everything went as it should, no leaking, no issues.
One month in with the new motor and all is good. I cannot rate the longevity as one month is no test for that.
Aside from the cost of having someone come out to diagnose, then order the part, and come back to fix it -- it would also be a week or two without a washer, at best. So we figured we'd take a chance on trying to replace ourselves, and used an online video with a very similar Samsung washer. The pump came in about 4 days, and was a perfect fit and identical to the original pump.
The whole job took about an hour, needed a philips screwdriver, a pair of long-angled pliers (mine appear identical to these: https://www.amazon.com/Channellock-430-Straight-Heat-Treated-Reinforcing/dp/B00002N5JF/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=channellock+pliers&qid=1590893855&sr=8-9) and some needle-nose pliers. You could probably get away with fewer tools -- the channel pliers are to squeeze the clamps on the two hoses that connect to the drain pump and the needle-nose are to remove the retaining ring around the big rubber gasket seal.
NOTE: If you don't have the washer on the optional pedestal drawer, you will have to tip it back to unscrew two screws underneath that secure the front panel to the frame -- if you have the pedestal, then the screws are accessible by simply opening up the pedestal drawer (and no need to tip the washer back). Needless to say, not having to tip it back makes for a much easier job, whereas you'd likely need another person to help with that.
Otherwise, just beware that there are like 5 or 6 sets of screws that get removed, and the different sets are different sizes. You won't find this mentioned in the videos, so make sure that you line up the each set of screws in separate piles somewhere safe so that you can work backwards when you put it all back together. TIP: I place the removed screws "far to near" during disassembly, about 2 -3 feet away from where I am working (so I don't accidentally bump them), and then work back "nearest to farthest" when putting it all back together.
My Samsung front load washer stopped draining and the display showed a "Nd" (no drain) around the 20 min mark of a cycle. After a Google search and watching some videos I decided to open up the washer. To diagnose the problem, I drained the water and the load finished with a spin cycle. I ran an empty load and it did it again. After another drain I knew I needed to open up the washer. After lots of video watching and 20 screws I took off the washers outside panel with the door so I could look inside and check hoses. I took the hoses off that were connected to the drain pump. Once I saw they were clear I diagnosed the problem as a bad drain pump. I also noted I had the washer for 10 years and that is their life span. Thankfully the part has a part number on it so.
I just looked it up. And Amazon had it. 2 days later, it arrived. I already had old drain pump off so all I had to do was connect the new one to the hoses and power source and put the washer front panel back on. Took me much longer to diagnose and take apart the washer than it did to install the new part and reassemble the washer. Works great!
