It's been three years since I bought the baby monitor, it's still floating around somewhere in the box it was returned to me in. I gave up trying to file a claim with my extended warranty and bought a new monitor.
What I did like about this monitor was the fact that I could have it set to my infant, and every so often it would switch to my toddler's room. It alerted me of noise or movement. During the day, if the sun wasn't too bright, there was a clear picture.
What I did not like, the video at night was very pixilated. The sound also echoed a lot of there was a delay, like I could see my toddler babbling or whatever, but the sound wouldn't follow for like ten seconds...
I also didn't like that if I went to the first floor of my home while one of my kids was napping on the second floor, I could only use the monitor if I unplugged it from the wall and brought it and the power supply downstairs. Then I would have to ALWAYS re-pair the cameras to it. I didn't like that there was no wifi capabilities, and it wasn't a "charge and carry" item.
If you live in a small, one floor home, this may work for you. But, I would pass if I ever had to purchase another.
This one has a much larger monitor with a clearer picture and the ability to pan the view - something my original model lacked and I considered a NECESSITY going forward. I also didn't want a camera with WiFi capailities, which has become surprisingly hard to find. (I'd much rather have a designated monitor for keeping an eye on my babies as it's constant montoring and I don't have to worry about my phone's battery life or hacking.)
Here's a quick breakdown of my experience:
The Good:
- Decent picture quality. I can see my son in his room sleeping, and that's what the purchase was intended for.
- Cameras have the ability to pan remotely and from what I can tell have an incredible pan range - I believe 360°.
- Battery life on the monitor is great. I've left it unplugged all night (accidentally) and it holds strong.
- Two-way communication is great for telling my toddler to go to sleep or get back into bed, lol
- Screen split is incredibly helpful when trying to keep an eye on two kids at a time. The sound from only one camera comes through the monitor, but you can toggle the sound feed back and forth with the arrows (while still viewing both camera feeds)
- You also have the ability to "rotate" between camera feeds. I believe it cycles every 5 seconds, but I could be wrong.
- It's a very aesthetically pleasing camera set. I find them to be rather pretty compared to a lot of the ones I found. Maybe not significant in the grand scheme of things, but they sure are nice to look at. :)
The Bad:
- The feed frequently freezes up/loses connection/restarts. This is incredibly bothersome in the middle of the night for me as I am a light sleeper and ALWAYS wake up when this happens. It reconnects within 5 seconds or so, but it's still rather annoying if I can be honest.
- The button locations are something I still struggle with. I'm not sure if that's due to me being used to my previous monitor's setup or if the configuration on this just doesn't make sense - but even after using it for 2 months I haven't adjusted to the button locations.
Overall, I am relatively pleased with the picture quality and functionality of this set, though I may have continued my search given the feed disruption issues.
Top reviews from other countries
Wall mounting of the camera is not simple like others - needs a special mount. Range of the monitor is good. Motion of camera tilt/swivel is great.
El rango de alcance es muuuuy bueno a diferencia del modelo anterior y sus funciones de lector de temperatura, vision nocturna, timer, sonidos programados nos siguen gustando.
However, 2 fundamental features are missing:
1. There is no volume threshold level on the camera (baby unit). So you have two choices:
A. Turn the volume on the parent unit to the minimum, and still hear all the background noise in the baby room continually. The minimum level is loud enough to keep me from sleeping.
B. Turn the volume off, but then you won't hear the baby crying.
What is needed is zero sound from the parent unit, until the baby makes a noise (with adjustable threshold). This product does not give you this feature.
2. The volume on the camera can't be adjusted. So you can play 5 lullabies and speak to the baby through the parent unit, but only at the factory-set volume. I find the lullabies playing too loud, but there is no way to solve this, except maybe sticking tape over the speaker or not using this feature.
I will be returning this unit.
