Want to know what Vietnam was really like? 252 Photos. 4.5 Stars!
Real stories told by real people, in their own words, 100 veterans, men and women, caught up in an all too real war. From the Delta to the DMZ, come walk in their boots. If you were there, you understand. If you weren't, grab a copy and you will, because they’re like Doritos. This is Volume 1 of 4. Try a few and you won't be able to stop.

The Vietnam War dominated my generation and affected so many lives in so many different ways. Some of us were drafted. Some enlisted. Some became war heroes, intentional or not, but most of us were just trying to survive. As we all knew, Vietnam was all about luck, good or bad. And there were hundreds of different wars depending on where you were, the year you were there, your service, branch, unit, rank, job, and race.

Whether we were truck drivers, helicopter pilots, infantryman, clerk typists, medics, engineers, MPs, sailors out on Yankee station, artillerymen, or cooks, from 1956 to 1976 from the Delta to the DMZ, these stories tell who we were, the jobs we did, our memories of that time and place, how it changed us, and what we did after we came home.

Unfortunately, what little our kids and grandkids know of the war comes from books that only focus on one soldier, one unit, and one year, or movies like Oliver Stone’s Platoon and Hamburger Hill, leaving people to think that all we did was crawl through the jungle on the Cambodian border smoking dope. But that wasn’t how most of us spent our year. Hopefully, these books will help correct that narrative.

William F Brown is the author of nine action adventure and suspense novels on Kindle, including the highly successful Bob Burke series, and Our Vietnam Wars, Volumes 1 thru 4, personal stories of the veterans who served there. His ministry and suspense novels include

Meredith Barnett: 5 Stars! A great read for my dad who served with 5/7 Cav in 66 & 67 in Vietnam I started reading this book on my iPad about a year ago I would read several stories at a time then stop and try to absorb these great stories of these heroes of the Vietnam war. I want to thank my daughter for talking me into reading this great book and also you Mr. Brown for doing a great job looking forward to Vol 2.

Amazon Customer: 5 Stars! Great book for a veteran We bought this for my father in law for Christmas. He was a plane specialist (I don't know his actual title) in Vietnam and he is an avid reader. He blew through this book. He really enjoyed it.

Phillip Martin Griffiths: 5 Stars! VALUE FOR MONEY From the United Kingdom. GREAT READ ****

GranJan: 5 Stars! The Truth is in the Telling This is the most haunting of books! I did not serve, but many of my friends did. My brother-in-law died of Agent Orange 45 years after the fact. Other Vietnam veterans that I have known didn't last that long. One thing I have learned from my combat-veteran Marine husband is that we will never know what serving is truly like. And, judging from his PTSD and nightmares, I'm glad for that. This book helped me understand a little more what it was like to be there. I believe that I will re-read this book every so often as it is tough to comprehend in just one reading. Thank you so much for telling their stories!

Hank Lajoie: 5 Stars! Brief, Personal Accounts Tell A Longer Story Kudos to the author: this is an excellent primer for anyone who wants to know more about our misadventures in Vietnam. Individual accounts explain some of the events that shaped the entire Vietnam experience.

From the Back Cover

This could be the most important book you'll read this year. It isn't another war book. It is a book about people and contains the personal stories of 100 Vietnam Veterans who served there.

Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, from the late 1950s to 1975 we served from the Delta to the DMZ, and from Thailand to Yankee Station in the South China Sea. Infantry grunts, truck drivers, medics, helicopter pilots, nurses, clerk typists, jet pilots, mechanics, staff officers, repairmen, artillerymen, B-52 bombardiers, MPs, and doctors, we were black, white, and Hispanic, male and female. We were only in our teens and early twenties, but our stories continue to resonate through the years.

January 30 marked the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive, the seminal event of a war that dominated my generation and changed our lives. Some of the men and women in this book are true war heroes. Most were just trying to survive. If you were there, you understand. If you weren't, my hope is that through these stories you will. Breaking down the stereotypes, they tell who we were, the jobs we did, our memories of that time and place, how it changed us, and what we did after we came home.

Over 58,200 of us paid the ultimate price, but the war didn't end when the last US helicopter lifted off the roof of the US Embassy in Saigon. It continues to take its ugly toll on many who did come home. Instead of bands and parades, we got PTSD and Agent Orange, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, neuropathy, leukemia, Hodgkin's Disease, prostate cancer, and many more. As they say, "Vietnam: the gift that keeps on giving."

My newest and 19th book, "Burke's Machete," Book #7 in the Bob Burke action-adventure thriller series is now available in Kindle E-Book and Amazon Paperback and Amazon Hardback editions, Audible audiobook editions. Like my other books, it will soon be out in German, Italian, and Spanish editions. Over half already are

With Burke's Mandarin, I now have the 7-book "Bob Burke Action-Thriller" series, 5 other free-standing suspense thrillers in my "Amongst My Enemies" series, three 3-book boxed sets, and my 4-book Our Vietnam Wars non-fiction series which has interviews with 240 Vietnam Vets and over 400 photos. Those books who they are, where they came from, their experiences and memories of their time in their service, and what they did after the war. All are great, memorable stories. Most of the books are now available in e-book, paperback and hardback from both Amazon and IngramSpark, audiobook from Audible and most other sellers, and German, Italian, and Spanish.

Bullets, bombs, and mayhem, if great action-adventure suspense fiction is your preference, try this top-rated, 7-book Bob Burke series. Burke's War is the first. Think The American Assassin meets The Godfather. In Burke's Gamble, book #2, when one of his men is thrown out the fifth-floor window of an Atlantic City casino run by the New York mob, someone’s going to answer, and payback’s going to be a hoot! Burke's Revenge deals with an ISIS cell and middle-east terrorism attacking Fort Bragg. In Burke's Samovar, the bad guys are the Russian mob in Brooklyn and in Moscow. And it Burke's Mandarin it is Chinese espionage and mischief in the South China Sea. And Burke's Rescue is set in the Caucasus Mountains when one of Bob's friends is kidnapped.

When that happens, he'd coming for him, then he's coming for the bad actors, and he's not coming alone. Bob Burke is a former Army Special Ops, Delta Force commander, and trouble keeps knocking on his door.

Aim True, My Brothers, is a contemporary, American political action thriller, as Middle East terrorism explodes on American shores. Amongst My Enemies is about the secrets and gold lying inside a rusting German U-boat on the bottom of the Baltic. Winner Lose All is about the scramble to grab the Nazi super weapons plans and engineers at the end of the war. In The Undertaker someone is burying bodies under other peoples names and Pete and Sandy are next on the Undertaker's list. Thursday at Noon is set in Egypt in 1963 and it is up to a burnt out CIA agent to stop another Middle-East war.

I am also the author of four screen plays, which have won or placed in numerous screenwriting competitions, and one was optioned for film. In my rapidly diminishing spare time, I like to travel, paint in acrylics and oil, and play bad golf.

Well done. Editing was not required and other than some "colorful language" we used during that time, the writings were like we were back there.Seemed to clear the air for a few participants.

I am one of the veterans whose story is included in this book. When Bill sent a draft to us, those whose stories are included, I naturally went to mine and did the corrections. I then started reading all the stories. Although it has been nearly 50 years since I left Vietnam, reading some of the accounts brought tears to my eyes. I did not have the homecoming that at least some other Vietnam veterans had, being spit on, called baby killer or worse. What happened to me was the indifference from most of the public. I say most because my parents, friends and the girl who later became my wife treated me well and attempted to show interest for something that they had no idea of what had happened. As a result, I kept the feelings I had secret. I even forgot the names of some of my comrades and particularly, the name of the door gunner whose body I carried after we were shot down. This book is better than good and I recommend it to anyone whose brother, father, mother, wife, cousin, sister, etc. served there.

Have read a lot of history books and know the general history so my interest is now personal histories. The real situations people in war go through makes any fiction pale in comparison. I liked the stories and it covers a range of people and jobs so you hear from nurses to infantry, Navy, Marines, Air Force, etc. It did seem to jump between periods of the war when I would have expected chron order, but could be to mix up the experiences for the reader. My personal preference would be at least longer in depth stories but would recommend it as a good mix of real stories with surprisingly interesting stories about the guys who never left the base.

I really enjoyed this book, from the combat stories to the stories of the pay masters on the Navy ships. All were veterans, all served, and they all, each and every one of them, deserve our thanks and gratitude. As a kid I was well aware of Vietnam, and my dad was a veteran of the Korean War, so we always kept up on the news. Vietnam ended before I left High School. I served in the Navy from 1977 to 1997. While not in combat, like these folks mostly were, we all served Uncle Sam in some capacity.

Thanks for these moving accounts from those of my generation who served . I didn't, Nixon ended the draft the same week I was scheduled to report for physical to qualify for the Marine Corps. Given the out, I opted to continue my nonmilitary life.

Any objection I had to the war did not extend to those who bore the brunt of a lot of bad political and military policies. I admired and felt for them all the same, believing that most were just kids like me trying to the right thing. I never pressed the veterans of the war who I met about their service, because I believed that was their story to share and that I probably could never really understand what they had been through not having been there. For me, this book answers a lot of questions I had. I am especially saddened to read about the widespread follow on effects of Agent Orange and angry about how the VA has discounted the claims. But most of all I am moved to learn how resilient and vital these men and women are in their post-war lives. It is a great testament that there is more than one "Greatest Generation" in 20th Century extending even into the 21st that was my generation especially those whose stories are told on these pages.

As one who also served in Vietnam I loved reading about other's experience. None were anything like mine and it didn't surprise me. Mine was early in the was (1965-66) and things were more loose. I have read many books on the war. It was the adventure of my life (I am 81 now) and I want to know as much as I can about it. I have always been interested in how other dealt with it and this book is all about that. I am always amazed at the way soldiers in the field coped with such horrible conditions and were still able to function. I have always wondered if had I been put in those conditions how I would have done. About the worst inconvenience I had was that I never had hot water and the water in the tap wasn't drinkable. I also spent a lot of time at the beach and I'm sure I over exposed my skin to ultraviolet radiation. As far as I know I was never shot at.

I was also surprised at how much damage was caused by Agent Orange. One of the officers who lived in the same billet as I did was involved in the spraying. He often invited me to go on the missions with him. I always declined, not because I was concerned about my health, that wasn't a concern back then, but because I didn't care to go flying when I didn't have to. I have had Type I diabetes since 1972 but it never occurred to me that it could be war related and it probably isn't since I was never out in the field.

It would seem to me there were a lot of avoidance of combat. MAny were lifers. Most of the vets I know are truly messed up. They humped the Bush for one and sometimes up to three years. A few of these men were like that but not many. Of course a lot of the ones I am talking about never came home

Mal was anderes zum Thema.

This unique format of a hundred short stories is really effective, and allows one to learn about a hugely wide array of roles in the conflict. All were interesting - after all, how else can you learn about the life of a cook, a nurse, a Donut Dolly in the Vietnam war. In addition to the more familiar tales of the warriors themselves. I also loved hearing how their various lives panned out after the war, but was horrified to learn of the long term effects of Agent Orange and PTSD. This book I recommend highly
