FAST, dependable, easy, huge
5 Stars
FAST, dependable, easy, huge
The Qidi xplus 3 is a huge 3d printer. It has a larger print area than most printers. I’ve had great results from my other Qidi 3d printers. This xplus 3 is excellent. I’ve been printing nonstop since it arrived. This is an excellent printer if you want to print larger items or exotic engineering grade filaments.Pros:Huge print areaFASTUser friendlyRemovable print plate is excellentHuge variety of materialsEasy for beginnersDependable and repeatableGreat free slicer (Qidi slicer) customized to this unitEmail contact for any questionsEnclosureHeated chamberIncluded dry boxIncludes two hotendsAssisted bed levelingTouch screenBuilt in lightFans operate automaticallyCons:Unit is very largeIt’s heavy. My wife wasn’t able to bring the package inside by herself. It’s hard to find something comparable in the same price range. I have a few Prusa mk4 units. This Qidi is faster and much larger. I purchased a Qidi xsmart 3 when it was released. That has been an amazing printer. This xplus 3 has been just as reliable while providing much larger prints.Print size:I printed a 10” diameter bowl without any lifting or print issues. Most larger printers struggle to print near the edges. This machine handled it like a champ. I look forward to printing larger holiday decorations. I plan to make a giant candy cauldron for halloween. It’s incredible to have a dependable HUGE print area. I haven’t seen anything come close to this.Bed plate:The removable magnetic print sheet is excellent. It’s the same quality one used on my xsmart 3. It’s a thick textured pei that works for pla, abs and petg without the need for glue sticks. That might not seem like as big of a pro as it is. Printing sheets are expensive, and glue is messy. This is a one and done sheet. You don’t need to fuss with different sheet profiles either. The bed plate has notches so you can align it perfectly every time.Enclosure:Keeps hands away. If you have kids or pets, the enclosure is a great benefit. The chamber is heated too, so you can print the engineering grade filaments. There is a rear case fan and a giant part cooling fan.Top cover has notches that fit into the top case. I like this more than the magnetic tops. The printer will tell you if you need to remove the top cover before printing. It seems silly, but it’s extremely helpful.User interface:It’s a touchscreen and easy to read. The unit has an auto load and unload. You get both icons and text. It’s well thought out and intuitive. The are NO bed leveling knobs to fuss with. The unit has a bed leveling sensor and walks you though setting z offset. Every printer should have this feature.Qidi slicer:You can download profiles for a variety of slicers on the Qidi website. Cura, orca, prusaslicer, etc.I recommend the Qidi slicer. It’s quick to open, easy to use and slices well. You get an image preview on the printer itself. The preview will show print time and material next to the image.Qidi slicer is based on prusaslicer. I’m extremely familiar with prusaslicer. It’s the easiest slicer I’ve personally used.Qidi continually updates the slicer profiles. This lets you skip fine tuning it yourself. I consider this one of the best benefits. You can slice and hit print. No fuss.Speeds:This is FAST. It’s faster than my long awaited mk4 units. Last Halloween I printed a cauldron that took a day and a half on my prusa. I had to reprint it multiple times after various failures. I printed a gigantic bowl this weekend and it took only 8 hours. Standard 6-8 hour prints are coming in at about 2 hours on this Qidi.I printed some engineering items for work. 2 hours, 10 mins. This would have taken a full day at lower quality on my printer at work.I look forward to printing ultra high quality items. Print time is no longer a deterrent.Materials:This can print more materials than any other printer I own or have ever used. I’ve had over a dozen 3d printers in recent years. This has a full enclosure, heated chamber, various fans, dry box, copper plated nozzle and a hardened steel nozzle.Pla, abs, petg, nylon, engineering blends, you name it.Help:Each Qidi printer has a dedicated email address for support. They will help answer questions and solve problems. It’s like having a personalized helper. This helped me a lot with my first 3d printer. I still email them years later when I need help. There are times when you know what’s wrong, but can’t figure out how to word it for a google search. Qidi let’s you skip that. They send videos back and have pdf guides with pictures too. It’s a turnkey experience.Build quality:This is built like a tank. Qidi uses high quality components. This is a workhorse printer that requires very little maintenance.Print quality:I put this through its paces with large items that have lots of retractions. It handled it like a champ. I had low stringing and excellent results. I haven’t printed abs with it yet. My other Qidi xsmart3 isn’t heated, and prints abs very well. I expect this to be just as good if not better.Final thoughts:This is a large printer. You can print giant stuff. You can also print regular sized items. It will handle the exotic filaments just as well as regular pla. I have two Qidi xsmart3 printers. Those are tiny compared to this. I still consider the xsmart 3 as the best low cost entry level printer. This xplus 3 has the heated chamber and gigantic print volume. If this fits in your budget and you would benefit from the print size or wider material options, you can’t go wrong with this.I’ll keep updating this review as time goes on. It’s an expensive purchase. My other Qidi printers have been excellent and this one has been just as good so far.

X Plus 3 makes the best prints I've ever printed. It does an excellent job with all the materials I tested (ASA, TPU, PA (nylon), PC, PA CF, PC CF...). There is very little to no need to tweak the default profiles in the software except if you use some no-name questionable quality filaments. So, it is perfect for enthusiasts who want the best quality and for beginners who just want to print without learning the process. It is not perfect in things that don't affect the print quality. The user interface is not bad, but not the best I've seen. Design is not for everybody's taste, but under the (IMO) not-so-beautiful plastic cover, you have the system of hardware at a very high level. Unbelievably they managed to sell this at an affordable price. $650 doesn't sound affordable, but if you think of any printer of this size that you can get for $200-300, to match the possibility of this printer, you must spend a lot of money on upgrades and still must deal with firmware modifications, making all kinds of adapters and probably never achieve this level. Customer support service is way above any other ones I had to deal with. Fast responding, friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to help and keep the customer happy. I have 3 other printers and now I am so thrilled about the printer you don't spend time on servicing, repairing, or upgrading, but designing parts and printing.
Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019
I’m new to 3D printing so I had no idea where to start in purchasing a 3D printer. I’m retired so I was looking for a new hobby and 3D printing had always fascinated me. My son had a friend who had purchased a Anycubic 4Max Pro and he said it was a great printer. He even posted a 5 star review to that effect. So I took the leap and ordered one. It worked great for about a week and then the touch screen went south. I sent the printer back and requested a replacement. I could never get the bed leveled properly on this one so I sent it back as well. Then while doing further research I came across the Qidi line of printers. Right off I noticed over 95% five star reviews on their printers. At first I thought most of them must be bogus, but after reading them I saw they were not. What’s amazing is some people had occasional problems with their printers. Not many but some. Most still gave the printer a five star review because of the prompt and excellent customer service they received from Qidi from…. yes China. Just read the reviews.

I ordered the Qidi X-Plus a couple of weeks ago. This printer is a beast…. Heavy duty in every way including weighing in at over 50 lbs. It has dual Z axis with two 10mm stainless steel rods on each side which makes the print bed rock solid. And this printer is quiet which tells me the bearings and stepper motors are premium. The printer has been going almost non-stop since I received it and has made many excellent prints. My grandson has been designing things on Tinkercad and having me print them for him which I enjoy doing. I haven’t tried to use any of the more exotic filaments yet but the printer comes with an additional extruder that goes up to 300 degrees Celsius so you can print nylon, polycarbonate, etc. Swapping the extruders is extremely easy. There are videos on the USB drive that comes with the printer that explains this process as well as many others.
There is a limited number of video reviews on Youtube at present about this particular printer. I’m assuming because it has been on the market less than a year I believe. I noticed on some of the unboxing videos that the printer had shipped with two removable bed plates which are great by the way in removing your prints. I emailed Linda at Qidi and inquired if I should have received two plates with my printer. The next day I received a very nice email from her stating at one time they had included two build plates but haven’t done that in several months and hoped I understood. Which I did. There was certainly no mention of that in the description on Amazon. However, I was impressed with the quick response time to my question. Most companies would probably just ignored it.
I recently had a print to fail although it was no fault of the printer. The filament I was using just snapped. I don’t know if I got a bad roll or it was just a bad spot in the roll. Anyway it caused my extruder to clog and I couldn’t reinsert the filament in the extruder. I just pulled up the videos on the flash drive and found the one showing how to unclog the hot end. Following the video, I removed the extruder, took it apart and removed the blockage. Easy ten minute job. I have no doubt that if I have any problems with this printer down the road where I need help that I will receive excellent customer service from this company.
In summary there are a lot of lower cost 3D printers on the market as well as more expensive ones than the Qidi X-Plus. If you look at the reviews though there are very few that have more than 60 or 70% five star reviews. I believe I have found the best 3D printer on the market with the X-Plus regardless of price. If you are in the market for a 3D printer you will not be disappointed if you choose the Qidi X-Plus.

Update May 10, 2020:

A couple of months ago I started getting error messages on the touch screen and the printer would no longer print. I contacted Linda at Qidi Tech via email and she walked me through the trouble shooting process and the problem was isolated to the extruder. She immediately shipped a new replacement. In the meantime I just used the high temp extruder that also came with the printer.

Also about a month ago I was printing with the high temp extruder at 250c and my extruder temps were falling as much as 20 degrees while printing. This was happening with both the Qidi software as well as Cura. I again contacted Linda who helped me trouble shoot the problem. It turns out that after I deleted and reinstalled both pieces of software the problem went away and has never happened since.

You read so many reviews on other printers where people are having problems and cannot get needed support. This is certainly not the case with Qidi Tech. They support their printers. Qidi customer service is the absolute best!

I've owned this printer for a little over a year now (just out of warranty) and I love it. This was my first 3D printer, so I can't compare... But I know many who are jealous - especially after seeing what it can do.
I've had issues for a while but knew it had to be user error. Come to find out I cracked the heat block due to my lack of knowledge in 3D printing - and yet even with a damaged hotend, it still printed beautifully! Until the nozzles started falling out & wouldn't even screw in anymore.

I finally reached out to qidi support and Alex has been super patient & helpful.

I honestly chose this particular printer for a fair amount of reasons, but the most important being:
1. Qidi is known for their stellar after sales support (not disappointed)
2. Qidi is one of few companies who offer enclosed industrial 3D printers
2b. within a reasonable price range
2c. to single parties (not just companies)
3. I wanted to go with a company who I could stick with as my one woman business moves up the ladder; a company which offers a more "standard" & easy to operate industrial printer but also more advanced machines capable of heavy work loads (and high res, enclosed, etc etc)
4. Works "out of box". I'm a single mom of a 3 year old who has ADHD and suspected of being on "the spectrum" (and I have aspergers, ADHD, narcolepsy, and OCD). I genuinely do not have time to tinker and did not purchase a 3D printer as a "hobby"; it was a serious business investment which I gave up literally everything to start & deal with constant ridicule and criticism over. So, needless to say that I needed something which "just works".
5. Extremely high resolution prints (for an FDM printer).
6. Despite wanting a resin printer, I worried about my child with serious behavioral issues getting into the hazardous materials & also being unable to fully exhaust all fumes - on top of proper disposal of whatever waste there might be (I didn't want to get lazy one day & kill a bunch of wildlife due to being a selfish, ignorant human). So FDM was a must.
7. Wifi (although I honestly haven't figured this bit out yet. But I honestly haven't really had the time to)
8. A little silly but.... The sleek look. I love the way my x-plus looks, all fancy in her box. It's like seeing just the silhouette of a woman... Kind of "sensual".
It's simple, classy, minimalistic but packed full of features you didn't think you'd need. Like the touch screen, LED lights which can be turned on & off, fans which can be manually Operated and charcoal filters (I think... Honestly could be wrong there). I actually purchased some teeny tiny air purifiers to print with ABS but quickly realized I didn't need them at all. The fumes from ABS usually gives me an instant migraine but not with my qidi! 💙

Despite my setback (due to user error/not knowing the hotend needed to be HOT when switching out nozzles), I still love my printer and wouldn't trade it. Even if I hadn't reached out to qidi support and/or found replacement parts, I likely would have still held onto it out of love... because the x-plus truly is that good. I reeeeeally want one of the more pricey machines but have to wait until I sell (or even publish/release 😅) at least one doll I've made. It's tortureeee!

I know everyone wants an ender but I fail to understand why - other than it's DIY-ability, which I will say that sadly the x-plus is lacking in. But the thing about that is: this printer honestly doesn't need any upgrades. According to all the research I've done since deciding to make this purchase, this printer already has the best parts available on the market (at least in 2022).
Maybe later that'll be an issue, but I don't really see it being one for me. And I could be totally wrong! I'm not a tinkerer. I'm an artist.

I use teeny nozzles (0.1-0.2) to print my dolls in even higher resolution, use only premium filament (specifically spidermaker, duramic, hatchbox, sainsmart), slow all my prints down to -20mm/s & always use the absolute lowest layer height. It takes roughly 25 hours to print a 1.5" head with 20% infill. But even without those settings or nozzles, this printer still makes everything look good. Like really, really good. I think the pics I'm uploading are actually with a severely damaged heat block/hotend, so they're not nearly as good as before... But I'll be posting more once I get my baby fixed back up. And honestly that should be a great example of just how good this printer is!

Thank you, Qidi!
