UPDATE:
They work so well I bought another set for the living room TV. Thank goodness now my wife and I can watch this TV at different volume levels. I upgraded to five stars as this set had instructions on set up and use. This TV is several years old and did not have a 3mm audio out jack. The only set of RCA audio jacks for audio out was being used. I solved this problem with a set of RCA splitters.
UPDATE: My wife has used them both for about a month. We love them. The charging dock on both of them is eratic as reported by other users. Some times repositioning on the dock is required to keep them charging.
1) Still learning about relationship between TV volume and headphone volume. I've found I sometimes need to adjust volume on the TV before muting it, then make the final small adjustments on the headphones.
2) The "beep" when I reach the end of the headphone volume range is annoying.
3) Shared confusion mentioned by another reviewer when making audio out connection (red and white audio cables). Manual says after the hookup is made, "Then the power indicator (red) on the transmitter lights up." In fact that red power light does NOT light up unless you lift the headphones out of the transmitter - breaking that connection.
Minor annoyances. Great product.
The first problem was that they don't have sound when the TV is muted. I followed the pairing instructions to the letter, but when the TV is muted, the headphones were muted. I thought I could make it work because when the TV volume is low, but I had the headphones on it could hear fine and it didn't disturb my family downstairs at that low volume. The connection was spotty, but no big deal. That was day 1. When I tried to use them again today, the volume was incredibly low and I couldn't raise it enough to hear anything without also blasting the TV which defeats the purpose, but the nail in the coffin was that they wouldn't stay connected, even when I was standing right in front of the receiver, like 10" away from it. I have already set the return on these, and will be trying something different.
Placing the headphones back into the base unit for charging can be a little tricky. The pins to do the charging seem to be spring loaded. They have a tendency to push the headphones off of the charging position slightly. One needs to pay attention to the charging light indicators to ensure they are on the charger correctly. This is my only negative comment and the reason that I didn't give them 5 stars.
Okay, the positives are out of the way, let's focus on the negative. The headphones did not charge. At all.
I purchased new rechargeable batteries thinking the ones it came with might have been bad. No, we're talking defective unit here.
I've had a similar pair of headphones I purchased about ten years ago from RadioShack and they still work perfectly. They're showing their wear now though, so I thought I'd try some RCA ones. My mistake.
UPDATE: Got replacement quickly. There are three problems with this model.
1. The included rechargeable batteries are old and do not hold a very long charge.
2. The included batteries are 4.5 mAh. The instructions are to only buy/use the RCA branded batteries. If you but a mainstream battery (example Duracell or Energizer), their AAA batteries are 9 mAh (charge lattes TWICE as long as the included ones)
3. The charging transmitter unit either does not recognize other brands (ie, only charges their proprietary batteries) OR (more likely) RCA put in crappy components that are incapable of charging a better quality battery.
The replacement unit does work, but audio cuts out randomly, and the battery charge lasts 3 hours at most.
