I just cut the cord in November. I went all-in with the Edge ($378 with tax) and the lifetime plan ($250). With the HD antenna ($84), this set up will pay for itself in less than a year and a half. And then I'll be saving about $45 per month every month after that.
I'm new to the TIVO interface, but it's pretty similar to the DirecTV one that I've just given up. You have the standard channel guide where everything happens. Works exactly like you'd expect in terms of looking for shows, recording them. I wish I didn't have to press the TIVO logo twice to get to my list of recorded shows, but that's not terrible.
One thing that was really annoying was that TIVO set up my channel lineup based not on what channels my antenna actually receives, but instead based on my zip code. There were literally dozens of "fake channels" that my antenna didn't pick up listed on my guide. I had to go in and manually delete all of these, but I'll only ever have to do that once, so again, not a big deal. Just annoying, is all.
The "Skip all commercials" feature doesn't work very often. There are very few shows that permit it - Jeopardy and Stephen Colbert are two of the very few, and Seinfeld repeats on my local Fox channel. It's definitely pretty nice when it works - you get only about 4 seconds of commercials in between when it skips. But I couldn't care less, because it's just as easy to use the 30-second advance button to skip them manually.
The picture and sound are terrific. I'm very pleased with how well I'm getting the HD shows in through the antenna and then through the DVR. Even the secondary channels (every local HD station has up to 3 secondary stations that are in SD) look pretty good, too. There are some dropouts on some channels, some lasting a few seconds, some lasting a couple of minutes, but that's the antenna, not the TIVO.
I've gone from, what, 100 channels? down to about a dozen, but that's okay, because about 80% of what I watch is on regular TV anyway. It's nice to cut back on watching TV by that 20%, and to cut back on paying by $45 per month. I already have Amazon Prime (which is fully integrated into the apps), and if I like, I can get Netflix too, to make up for some of what I'm missing. And I'll still save money on the whole deal. Not bad, TIVO, not bad at all.
