The First 30 Days: A Zombie Apocalypse Novel Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 874 ratings

Zombies. It was out in the open, that word that I had been avoiding for days. Now that it was out, there was no putting it back.”
No one saw it coming. No one could have guessed that the vaccine that was supposed to save lives would take them instead. Once the death toll started to climb, it took less than a day for the world to change forever.

When Bri’s roommate suddenly develops a taste for cannibalism, she finds herself trapped in her upstairs bathroom, unable to comprehend the horrors that she sees through the small window. That limited view of the outside world doesn’t begin to show Bri just how much danger she’s going to be in when she finally escapes her home.

Running for her life, Bri won’t be alone for long. With the help of a bat-wielding stranger, she barely escapes the overrun city. Together, they just might survive long enough to find a safe haven.

The zombie apocalypse is a strange time to be alive. The dead walk and eat the living, but they’re not the most dangerous thing this new world has to offer. There are other survivors out there. And not all of them can be trusted.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"When Evie suddenly fell sick and was running an extremely high temperature, her flat mate, Bri, had to call Evie's boyfriend Austin for help. The two of them frantically battled to resuscitate a dying Evie. However, when it seemed like their effort had paid off, what sprang back to life was nothing like the Evie they used to know, instead it was a blood thirsty monster.
The First 30 Days is a gut wrenching horror book that will send shivers down the spine of its reader. The settings, suspense and sense of foreboding are so real and feel like the reader is actually experiencing the events, firsthand!

Other major characters in the book include Lisa, Dr. Gordon, Shawn, Jack, Fallon etc.

Bri couldn't believe her eyes as the apocalypse was unraveling before her with hordes of hideous blood thirsty zombies coming after her at every turn. Staying alive in the midst of the undead seemed impossible but Bri was determined to beat the odds.

Reading this book feels very much like watching a horror movie on high definition display--it's indeed a highly entertaining horror book that will definitely keep your heart pounding till the end!"

Was a great read read in one setting

I really hope there is more and the characters finally get a somewhat HEA...not that there really is such a thing in an apocalypse.

I really enjoyed this book start to finish! I read a lot of zombie books and I can honestly say this one had a refreshingly new take. The main character is Not an idiot which seems to be an issue with some books I read. She is headstrong, but she seems so real flipping through these pages. The thoughts going through her head during this time are thoughts that we could all relate to in a similar situation, but she is so rational. She is also not some gun wielding badass from the getgo. She doesn’t start out at a larger than life level. I loved this read and I’m hoping there will be a book 2 in the future.

I hate to leave a bad review. I hate reading bad books even more. This one was not bad but just falls into the category of the "least likely person to survive a Zombie apocalypse...but does" category. So while it did have decent writing and storyline overall, the protagonist would have been lucky to make it 30 minutes vs 30 days. She did make some clever moves and proved resourceful but there were a lot of unrealistic bits. Good work overall. Congratulations on completing a book.

Loved how the whole book was about Zombies and survival. I wasn’t even bored! I read it in a day. Great scary scenes and scares.

Interesting and well developed characters. Enjoyable weekend read in the zombie genre. I just believe the language of the characters is about restraining considering the situation. Just my opinion.

I had mixed feelings upon ordering this book. I don’t have a lot of time to read and didn’t want to invest the time in something that was going to be lackluster.

I enjoy a good zombie tale, and feel like this was absolutely up to par. Some reviews were critical about the main characters not being built up enough and a general lack of story to warrant an outpouring of emotions when someone died. I didn’t get that, at all. I feel like the character had an appropriate response to every situation, save a few very minor ones, and that her attachment to characters she “barely knew” was understandable.

If you’ve ever been stuck, away from home, in a hotel in, say, Hamilton Ontario, unable to be around anyone you know, of course you’re going to seek and find attachment to others quickly. I can only imagine how quickly a zombie plague would cause you to latch on to others who weren’t, ya know, currently eating your loved ones.

If you enjoy stories like the book World War Z, you’re gonna enjoy this. It’s not gonna change your life but you won’t be disappointed either.

It’s like Cracker Barrel. You’re not disappointed but it isn’t your first thought for food.

Loved this book, I'm a huge fan of this genre and really enjoyed the story being told from a female perspective. The characters were well rounded and believable and I was routing for them from start to finish. A real page turner. I was gutted when I realized I'd reached the end. A great read for lovers of zombies, Gore, horror, suspense and all things apocalyptic. Left me wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Zombie apocalypse story.

Wow. This book was a really great read and the best I’ve read so far, it was a bit more realistic than most.
Bri and Shawn stumble across each other and make their way out of the city heading for less populated areas. They meet other survivors along the way some of them good and others bad.
I thought this would have romance in it but it didn’t ‘sigh’ oh well. I hope there is a book 2 because I want to find out what happens next.

Great read for a rainy afternoon. Zombies of all varieties, bad guys, brave souls, determined heroes; all the elements needed for an engaging story.
Looking forward to reading the next instalment.
