The packaging was completely ripped open and obviously tampered with. There were no package plastics in the box used to hold everything in place. I carefully went through all 120 cards and they were all there, but, both decks had 2 sets of doubles for the foil cards instead of 4 different foil cards each. (I’m not sure if that’s normal or not). Cards were in good condition. I wouldn’t even be mad about this IF the description had said “used” or “out of box”, because the actual product is in good condition and everything necessary to play was still there and it’s a decent price....but It did not say used or OOB or open box. This was meant as a birthday gift and I cannot gift it in this condition. With the plastics missing, I can’t even tape the box back together. Completely unacceptable.

This is a great blast from the past. I've had this for months now and I couldn't be happier. It has given me everything I need to teach my 4 year old son how to play Pokemon TCG. He plays pikachu (easier of the two decks in my opinion and he LOVES Elctivire's 170pt Giga Impact attack) and I play Eevee. Instructions were easy to pick up after not having played in over 20 years. The playmats, even though they are paper, we're especially helpful in teaching my son. After about 30 games over several months he actually taught my wife to play... And he did so correctly... At age 4... He cannot read bit he picked up the card imagery in the first few games and I took special care to make sure, at the suggestion of another review here, to read the cards to him and explain what they do. It has allowed him to put an action with every card when he sees the imagery. For instance, as soon as a Trainer Hay card comes into his hand he knows it's the only one with red words he can play that turn and he knows it lets him draw 3 cards.

We still play with both hands face up, which is fine. I play him at about 70% effort so he wins about 80% of the time. It's allowed me to text him to neither "bemoan his defeat nor crow his victory".

It takes us about 45-60 minutes per game because he has to have us both act out each attack. I love it. Lifetime memories in the making!

I had fond memories of playing the Pokemon TCG as a teenager with my little brother, so I wanted to introduce my kids to it so they could have a fun experience like I did. This set is perfect for starting from scratch! It includes two decks, two paper playing mats, two coins, and two sets of simple (if not slightly lacking) directions.

As other reviewers have noted, you won't have to worry about certain elements of the game in this introductory set; weakness/resistance don't come into play, and there are no status effects, stadium cards, GX/EX Pokemon, etc. Veterans of the TCG won't get much mileage out of this set, but my eight- and six-year-old love it!

Arrived in perfect condition and contained two balanced decks, mats, damage tokens… which was a great way to learn - for me and my 6 year old! We supplemented these instructions with a few videos on the Pokémon YouTube page. After playing a number of times we incorporated these decks with other cards purchased/traded and it has been a great jumping off point. Highly recommend.

Comes with two 60 card decks that are ready to duel with. Cards seem genuine too me, and each deck comes with a code to add the deck too your Pokemon online account so you can use them there also. Several cards in each deck are warped and will need flattened somehow, minus 1 star for that. Note that these decks are super basic and not anywhere near current, leaving out many mechanics of a 'real' game of Pokemon. This is only for someone that wants to show their young kids how you generally play Pokemon. That said if your just playing these two decks versus each other you can still have fun.

Best Value for Beginners: If you are new to Pokemon and want to play a full game with two people this is what you buy. Best purchase for $20. I played first edition pokemon when it first came out and was getting back into it with me son. I've tried a bunch of theme decks and elite trainer boxes etc and this was the best value.

Both Pretty Balanced: We've played then a bunch pure and played them a bunch switching some of the cards out for cooler ones and both are pretty balanced. They both provide a good foundation for Electric and Fire decks.

I noticed that someone else wrote the basic rules only (no status conditions for either deck) and I think that's a fair point. I don't think that's a problem though. In fact I think it makes it even easier for newbies.

My son (6) really likes some of the cards. I think they did a good job picking out some really neat cards and holos. I mainly got this because he wanted a Charizard deck and this was the best and cheapest option out there.

I bought this for my 7 and 9 year old daughters because while they had purchased Pokemon trading cards, they (and I) had no idea how to play the game. This set comes with 2 full 60 card decks, play mats that have card placement labeled on them, and two sets of basic instructions for the game. We learned and played together and now have a basic understanding of how to play, and how to incorporate booster pack cards into the game.

There are one energy in each set and it helps simplify. You can play many games before you add in and create your own. The price was good and it allows you to start your own Pokemon deck.

This is a excellent starter set for teaching kids the game. It contains two very balanced decks that are perfect for kids. It also includes a playmat that lays out how to setup your hand and has reminders for the steps in each turn. My 7 year old daughter loves the special foil cards and cute Pokemon like Pikachu and Eveee. I can't recommend this enough for someone wanting to learn the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to the TCG.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 27, 2020
Bought this for my son's 8th birthday as he wanted to try getting into the Pokémon TCG. The fact it comes with two decks is great as it is ready to play a match right out of the box (after reading the rules).
The decks are pretty basic in terms of abilities when compared to other decks in the Pokémon TCG but for beginners, this is perfect. The rules are well set out and easy to follow, plus you get the codes to redeem the decks in the online version too should you want to.

Some reviews have said that the decks are uneven and one is easy better than the other but so far in c. 50 games with it, the winning percentage for each deck is roughly 50/50. Being a TCG, the hand you have is quite key to whether you can win or you'll struggle but there are no glaring cards that make one deck immediately stronger than the other.

All in all, this has provided hours of fun and is a great introduction to the TCG for younger players, especially given it has two of the most recognisable Pokémon as the deck characters.
